Who’s Who in the Home Building Industry
Angela Jeantet is assistant director for business and legal programs at the University of California, Irvine Extension. Under her purview is the Light Construction and Design management certification program. The BIA presented Jeantet with a Ruby Slippers Award in the education category for addressing the critical issue of workforce development in the local homebuilding industry. The industry is facing a shortage of skilled trade contractors due to the demand for housing and the cost of insurance.
Records indicate that more than 430 students have graduated from the LCDM program since it was created in the late 1970s. Upon completion of 246 hours of instruction, students gain knowledge and skills that are found to be vital for achievement in planning, research, scheduling, analysis and management of light-construction projects; preparation of commercial, industrial and residential loan packages; development, implementation and evaluation of marketing and sales-management strategies; examination of how computer technology and related tools can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of industry functions; and understanding the governmental-entitlement process as well as legal and tax considerations of real estate ownership.
