UCI Extension Courses Approved for Federal Funding
IRVINE, Calif. – Dec. 5, 2001 – The state and federal government Monday approved 21 UC Irvine Extension programs to be offered in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program , which replaced the Job Training Assistance Program (JTPA) in July 2000.
The program is administered by the Orange County Workforce Investment Board, which operates "one-stop" job centers throughout the state. The program provides job training and development assistance for job seekers of all levels and backgrounds, who do not necessarily need to be currently employed.
Criteria for acceptance into the program mainly includes the person's need for additional job skill upgrades in order to attain or retain employment.
The Workforce Investment Act provides the full cost of job training -- primarily certificate programs -- and any other social services necessary to either obtain or maintain client employment.
The state and federal approved programs include:
Information Technologies
Business & Management
Design & Digital Arts
Engineering & Sciences
Also, as a result of this approval, UC Irvine Extension's Women's Opportunities Center is also now a satellite office of the Coastal Orange County One-Stop Centers, and will house an on-site case manager two days a week. For more info on WIA and one-stop centers, visit www.coastalonestop.cccd.edu
