Program Provides Valuable Insight into Winning Government Funds for Research, Small Business and Entrepreneurial Innovations
IRVINE, Calif. – February 10, 2006 – UC Irvine Extension and The Orange County Technology Action Network (OCTANe) announced OCTANe@UCI’s Winning Government Funds, a final program in a Three Stage series. This final two-day program, “Winning Government Funds: Building a Business Based on Innovation,” will be held Monday, February 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Tuesday, February 28 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, at the UC Irvine University Club located on the UC Irvine campus in Irvine, Calif.
The program is designed to help entrepreneurs, researchers and small companies maximize their chances for winning Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer Program (STTR) and other government funds, to support the new product development and new business growth based on innovation. Stage One included congressional support from Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and staff members. Stage Two involved one-on-one mentoring and business coaching from the OC Professional Coaching and Mentoring Association (PCMA). In addition, information sessions have been held at Steven Myers & Associates (SM & A) and the law firm of Jackson, DeMarco, Tidus and Peckenpaugh throughout the month of February.
“This program series demystifies and educates people on the complicated process of obtaining government funding,” said Jacci Cenci-McGrody, Program Manager for OCTANe@UCI. “Attendees will learn from experts and federal agency program managers who are actively involved in funding, and will receive valuable advice on agency priorities and experience.”
The OCTANe@UCI program will feature Washington-based representatives of key federal agencies that support research, including funding opportunities for five agencies within the Department of Defense. On day one, these representatives will discuss their agency programs and clarify key differences among various agency programs. Day two of the workshop will feature one-on-one and group sessions with key agency officials where participants will have the opportunity to introduce proposals, receive initial feedback and be guided toward a successful application process.
